Justin Bieber‘s 2015 music video for “Sorry” has surpassed 4 billion views on YouTube, the platform announced Thursday (Sept. 4). The milestone places the track among an elite group of only 15 music videos to achieve this level of success.
The visually striking video, notably absent of Bieber himself, features choreography by dance star Parris Goebel and a troupe of dancers in vibrant costumes. While “Sorry” is one of Bieber’s most popular videos, it’s still behind Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito,” wich currently leads with 8.8 billion views. The achievement underscores Bieber’s continued dominance on the platform and in the music industry, even as he concurrently releases new music – announcing a second album, Swag II, set for release at midnight following the July 11 debut of Swag.
“Sorry,” lifted from Bieber’s 2015 album Purpose, became his second song to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, following “What Do You Mean?” in September 2015. Bieber co-wrote the track with Justin Tranter and Julia michaels, alongside co-producers Skrillex and Bloodpop.
This latest accomplishment revisits Bieber’s early YouTube record-breaking success. In 2010, his “Baby” video held the title of the most-watched YouTube video, surpassing Lady Gaga’s “Bad romance,” until Psy’s “Gangnam Style” claimed the crown in November 2012.
beyond “Sorry,” Bieber boasts five other videos within YouTube’s Billion views Club: “Baby” (3.4 billion views), “What Do You Mean?” (2.2 billion views), “Love Yourself” (1.7 billion views), “Never Say Never” featuring jaden Smith (1.2 billion views), and ”Beauty and a Beat” featuring Nicki Minaj (1.1 billion views).
