Amorim ‘Frustrated’ as Man Utd Block Gallagher Pursuit, Leave Mainoo in Limbo
Manchester United manager Ruben amorim reportedly expressed frustration over the club’s failure to secure Chelsea’s conor Gallagher during the recent transfer window, while simultaneously denying Kobbie Mainoo’s request for a loan move. The situation leaves the 20-year-old Mainoo, valued at £70million by The Guardian in March, remaining at Old Trafford despite wanting to seek playing time elsewhere.Amorim personally identified Gallagher, a 21-cap England international, as a key target, with United having previously attempted to sign him in January. Though, the club’s ownership, including the INEOS group, were unable to finalize a deal for the Chelsea midfielder. This inability to land Gallagher, coupled with the rejection of Mainoo’s loan request for the 2025/26 campaign, has reportedly displeased amorim, who is now left with a player who did not desire to stay.
The failed pursuit of Gallagher is believed to have been impacted by Mainoo’s situation. Despite his desire to leave, sources have indicated to TEAMtalk that Manchester United remain confident Mainoo will receive opportunities this season, with Amorim set to provide him with chances to compete for a starting position alongside Bruno Fernandes.United have publicly stated that Mainoo has their ‘full support’ to revive his career at Old Trafford, and the player has agreed to commit to working hard for his place in the squad.
