Paraffin Prices Rise in Chile, Ending Two-Week Decline
Santiago, Chile – After a two-week period of decreasing prices, paraffin (kerosene) in Chile will see a price increase of 3.6 pesos per liter, effective Thursday, September 4th, according to a recent report from ENAP, the national oil company. This marks a reversal in the downward trend observed in recent weeks, with previous drops of 8.9 pesos per liter on August 28th and 23.2 pesos per liter on August 21st.
The price adjustment impacts households and industries reliant on paraffin for heating and other uses, notably as colder weather approaches. While gasoline and diesel prices will remain stable until Wednesday, September 17th – coinciding with national holidays – the paraffin increase offers a snapshot of the fluctuating fuel market in Chile. Current average prices, as of Wednesday, show paraffin costing 1,133.3 pesos per liter in the northern zone, 1,075.5 pesos per liter in the central zone, 1,114.1 pesos per liter in the southern zone, and 1,087.5 pesos per liter in the Metropolitan region.
ENAP emphasized in its report that it does not regulate fuel prices in the Chilean market, stating, “ENAP does not fix or regulate fuel prices in the Chilean market. Consequently, this report cannot, in any case, to consider that ENAP determines, fixes or defines references or values for the prices to the final consumer, which are free given the status of open and competitive market.”
