China Sees “General Secretary Step Down” Big-Character Posters Amidst Unrest

Anti-Communist Displays and Calls for Xi Jinping‘s Resignation Surface‌ Ahead of Military ⁣Parade

BEIJING – In a series of escalating displays of dissent, anti-communist slogans and ⁤calls for the ‍resignation of Chinese leader Xi ⁣Jinping have emerged in multiple ⁤locations across China, just days⁣ before the planned September 3rd military parade commemorating⁢ the⁣ 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. these incidents, occurring in both Beijing and Chongqing, represent a rare and overt challenge⁢ to the authority of the communist⁢ Party of China (CPC).

Reports indicate a large-scale display of anti-communist messaging occurred ⁢on ⁤August 29th in Chongqing University Town. For⁢ over 50⁣ minutes, multiple⁢ large screens on a tall building‌ displayed slogans including: ‌”There is a ⁣new China⁣ without the Communist Party. Freedom is not a gift to be taken back,” “Destroy the red fascism and ‍overthrow the ⁣tyranny of the⁤ Communist Party,” “Get up, people who are unwilling‍ to be slaves, rise up⁢ and resist and take⁢ back their ⁢rights,”‌ and “Don’t lie and‍ ask the truth, don’t enslave and ask for ⁢freedom, the Communist Party ⁣stepped‌ down.” ⁣The display was initiated⁣ remotely by Qi Hong, who ‍revealed‌ to media he and his ‍family had‌ left China on ‍August 20th. He cited ‍inspiration from previous acts of protest,⁣ including the “Sitongqiao Incident” involving Peng‍ Lifa, the “Baipaper Sports” movement, and the Yida Bridge⁤ incident in Chengdu earlier this year.

Qi Hong reportedly ⁤began planning the projection⁢ operation in July, ‌initially considering the use of drones for distributing flyers‍ before adopting the projection method used previously by Chai Song, who projected slogans like “Down with the Communist Party and Xi‌ Jinping” ⁢in Jinan, Shandong, prior to the 2023 Chinese ⁢Communist Party Congress.

Simultaneously,⁢ reports⁤ are circulating regarding a‍ separate incident ⁤in Beijing. Hu Liren, citing a ministerial-level source, claims a member ⁢of‌ the People’s⁢ Liberation Army (PLA) stationed within the General Office of the State Council ⁢publicly called ‍for Xi ‌Jinping’s⁣ resignation.‍ According to Hu Liren’s source, the individual is in‍ his 40s, from southern‌ China, and had‍ previously been⁢ involved‍ in coordinating ‌daily government ⁤affairs during a prior prime minister’s ⁢tenure. The individual’s name has not been released.

Hu⁢ Liren emphasized the sensitivity‌ of the incident, stating it would be ‌suppressed‍ in official CPC⁢ reports due ‌to⁢ its nature as a “naked political nuclear explosion”⁣ and a notable taboo within the dictatorial regime.

These events occur against the backdrop of heightened security and preparations for the September 3rd military parade ⁤in Beijing, intended to showcase China’s ‌military strength and national unity. The ⁢displays of dissent highlight underlying discontent‌ and represent ‍a bold, albeit risky, challenge to the CPC’s control.
