Zemmour Challenges Macron’s Leadership, Cites Senghor’s Resignation as Contrast

Published: October 26, 2023

PARIS – Eric Zemmour, leader of the Reconquête party, delivered a scathing critique of French President Emmanuel Macron during a recent address focused on the upcoming March 2026 municipal elections. Zemmour’s remarks centered on a perceived lack of decisiveness in macron’s leadership, drawing a pointed comparison to former Senegalese President Léopold Sédar Senghor.

Zemmour argued that Macron lacks the political courage demonstrated by Senghor, who voluntarily resigned from the presidency in 1980 to facilitate a peaceful transition of power to Abdou Diouf. “Macron is neither Charles Quint, nor de Gaulle, nor senghor: even if he knows he is rejected, he does not have enough panache to give up power,” Zemmour stated, as reported by Le Journal du Dimanche (JDD).

The Reconquête leader positioned resignation as the “only solution to get out of the crisis,” accusing Macron of clinging to power despite facing political headwinds. This criticism comes as Macron’s current term is set to conclude in april 2027, leaving several months remaining before the next presidential election.
