Murena Launches Shiftphone 8,a Modular,Privacy-Focused Smartphone
Murena has unveiled teh SHIFTphone 8,a new modular smartphone running /e/OS – a privacy-focused,Android 14-based operating system devoid of intrusive Google services. The launch signals Murena’s expansion into the European market wiht devices prioritizing sustainability, ethical production, and user privacy.The SHIFTphone 8 features a Qualcomm QCM6490 processor (equivalent to the Snapdragon 778g), a 6.67-inch Full HD+ AMOLED screen with a 120 Hz refresh rate, and a removable, universal battery. It boasts a dual 50 Mpx camera optimized for low-light photography using pixel binning, and offers 256 GB of storage expandable up to 2 TB via microSDXC. The device includes 12 GB of RAM, 5G connectivity with eSIM support, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and QC 4+ fast charging.
Security features include physical “kill-switches” to disable the camera and microphone.Murena includes a complete kit with a case, protective glass, and a screwdriver for module replacement.Manufactured in Shift’s own factory in China under monitored working conditions, the SHIFTphone 8 includes a €22 recycling incentive. Shift partners with Closing The Loop, an NGO focused on electronic waste collection, to further minimize environmental impact.
The Murena SHIFTphone 8 will be showcased at IFA in Berlin, with pre-orders expected to open soon on murena.com and shift.eco.The device is also available with android 14 and Google services.
