Jakarta – Indonesia’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, has dismissed claims of fuel scarcity at private gas stations, stating teh government has already increased import quotas for 2025.The clarification comes after reports of stock shortages at stations operated by Shell, BP-AKR, and Vivo over the past week.
Bahlil explained that the government granted a 10% increase in fuel import quotas for private companies in 2025,building on the 2024 allocations. “For the availability of our national fuel for the private sector, we provide import quotas, such as, in 2024, 1 million [units]. In 2025 we give 10% added too 1.1 million, that is an example. So the import quota is given 100% in 2024 plus 10%,” he said at the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta on Monday (September 1, 2025).
“So more than the target of the previous year. So, no one is [experiencing] scarcity,” bahlil affirmed. He noted that private stations requesting additional supply could also source fuel from the state-owned Pertamina.
“but they ask for added. But if I ask for adding I say, that our national inventory is still there. So it can be collaborated with B-to-B with national inventory,” Bahlil stated.
The move to increase import quotas aims to ensure a stable fuel supply for both public and private sectors amidst growing demand.
