Genocide Scientists Escalate Accusations against Israel as International Pressure Mounts
The Hague, Netherlands – A panel of genocide researchers has formally accused Israel of committing genocide in gaza, intensifying international scrutiny and calls for intervention. The accusation comes as pressure builds on the Dutch goverment to take stronger action against Israel, with advisory committees asserting a legal obligation to prevent potential genocide.
The researchers cite statements from Israeli politicians and army commanders referencing “maximum damage” and transforming Gaza into a “hell” as evidence supporting their claim. This marks the ninth time the International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS), a thirty-year-old association, has established a finding of genocide. The accusation is vehemently denied by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which calls it “outrageous” and attributes the claims to “Hamas lies” and unverified information.
The IAGS’s resolution adds weight to a growing chorus of organizations and experts alleging genocide in Gaza. Simultaneously, the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant, obligating ICC member states to arrest them should they travel within their borders.
Last month, a Dutch advisory committee informed the government it is legally bound to work to prevent genocide in other countries. The College of Human Rights has also urged the Dutch government to implement heavier measures against Israel, further escalating the pressure for a stronger response. The situation underscores a deepening international legal and political challenge for Israel, and a growing dilemma for nations allied with both Israel and the principles of international humanitarian law.
