Kildare Photographer‘s Electric Picnic Image Wins Prestigious Award
Naas,County Kildare – September 3,2023 – A striking photograph capturing the vibrant atmosphere of the Electric Picnic festival has earned kildare-based photographer Julie Wren the overall prize in the recent Irish Professional Photographer of the Year awards.Wren’s winning image, a dynamic shot of festival-goers enjoying the music, was selected from hundreds of entries across multiple categories.
The award recognizes Wren’s remarkable skill in capturing a fleeting moment of joy and energy at the Stradbally, County Laois event, held August 18-20, 2023. The Irish Professional Photographer of the Year awards, presented annually by the Irish Professional Photographers Association (IPPA), are considered a benchmark of excellence within the Irish photographic community. Wren’s victory highlights the growing recognition of contemporary event photography and the artistic merit found within festival culture.
Wren, who specializes in event and portrait photography, described her winning shot as an attempt to encapsulate the “collective euphoria” of Electric Picnic. “I wanted to show the feeling of being entirely lost in the music and the moment, surrounded by people who are all sharing the same experience,” she stated. The IPPA judging panel praised the image’s composition, lighting, and ability to convey the spirit of the festival. The photographer’s work has previously been featured in KildareNow following coverage of the 2023 Electric Picnic, where she documented attendees of all ages enjoying the festival grounds. Wren’s award-winning photograph will be showcased alongside other winning entries at an exhibition later this year.
