Globe, unconnected.org Partner to Bring Sustainable Internet to Rural Philippine Schools
MANILA, Philippines – Globe and the global nonprofit unconnected.org have forged a partnership to deliver sustainable internet connectivity to remote schools and communities across the Philippines, aiming to bridge the digital divide and foster digital inclusion. The collaboration will leverage community networks to provide access to e-learning platforms, digital tools, and online resources for students and educators, while also opening up economic opportunities for residents.
The initiative addresses a critical need for equitable access to technology, with Globe emphasizing that “Connectivity is not just about technology; it’s about equity. We believe that bringing the internet to these schools will unlock opportunities and inspire a future where no student is left behind,” according to a company representative.
unconnected.org focuses on empowering local entrepreneurs to build and operate telecom infrastructure in underserved areas. “No digital poverty, that’s the heart of this partnership,” stated Benjz Gerard Sevilla,unconnected.org country general manager. “By leveraging each other’s strengths,we can drive meaningful connectivity to rural schools and disadvantaged communities, giving students opportunities that only connectivity can provide.”
The partnership will see Globe providing network infrastructure and connectivity solutions, while unconnected.org focuses on community empowerment and long-term sustainability. This combined approach aims to extend benefits beyond the classroom, enabling access to livelihood opportunities, digital marketplaces, and public services for entire communities.
“Its mission directly complements Globe’s drive to deliver inclusive, sustainable, and innovative digital solutions for Filipinos,” Sevilla added. The collaboration seeks to create lasting impact on education, equity, and digital inclusion throughout the Philippines.
