This year, the closures will affect millions, from those needing to access banking services to individuals expecting mail delivery or relying on government offices. understanding which businesses and services will be operating – and which won’t – is essential for a smooth holiday weekend.
Walgreens stores will maintain regular hours on Monday, September 1, 2025, but the majority of its pharmacies will be closed, with exceptions for 24-hour locations and select others. CVS stores and pharmacies will remain open, though hours may vary.
The United States Postal Service will suspend operations for the holiday,meaning no mail will be picked up or delivered. UPS will also halt mail and package pickup and delivery, with most locations closed, though UPS Express Critical will continue to operate. FedEx will largely be closed as well, with modified hours for FedEx Office locations and continued service from FedEx Custom Critical.
Most banks will be closed for the federal banking holiday, but online banking services and ATMs will remain accessible. Both the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will be closed for trading.
