Background: Starship and LC-39A
SpaceX intends to utilize LC-39A, historically used for Apollo and Space Shuttle missions, for its fully reusable Starship launch vehicle. Starship is designed to carry both crew and cargo to destinations throughout the solar system, including the Moon and Mars. the program represents a important expansion of SpaceX’s launch capabilities and a key component of NASA’s Artemis program, aiming to return humans to the Moon.
The EIS is required by the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) to ensure that the environmental consequences of major federal actions, such as approving SpaceX’s operations, are carefully considered. The EIS examines potential impacts on air and water quality, noise levels, wildlife, and other environmental factors.
