Google drive Gains Integrated Video Editing Capabilities
Google Drive is expanding its functionality with a new video editing feature powered by Google Vids, allowing users to edit videos directly within the cloud service without needing to save or export separate files. The feature will initially be limited to videos with .mp4, .Quicktime, .OGG,and .Webm file extensions, with a maximum length of 35 minutes and a file size under 4GB.
this new capability is not available to all Google Drive users. Access is restricted to customers with specific subscriptions, including: Business Starter, Standard, and Plus; Workspace Enterprise Starter, Standard, and Plus; Workspace Non-bound Institution; those with Gemini Education or Gemini Education Premium add-ons; Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers; and customers who have purchased Gemini Business or Gemini Enterprise packages.Users with qualifying subscriptions can expect to see the feature become available within the next two weeks.
While ideally suited for desktop use, the feature is also accessible via smartphone, though users may require more patience and caution to achieve desired results.
The integration with Google Vids is part of a broader effort to enhance video content access within Google Drive. Recent improvements include a redesigned visual display, instant playback for newly uploaded videos, and the addition of time-stamped transcripts. This progress follows recent updates to Google Drive, including the upcoming deletion of discarded files starting next month, the discontinuation of synchronization between Google Photos and Drive in July, and improvements to file search functionality.
