European Troop Deployment to ukraine Draws Criticism from Russia
Following discussions between US President Donald Trump and European leaders at the white house, reports emerged that approximately ten European countries are considering sending forces to Ukraine to help maintain peace after the conflict.
This potential deployment has drawn strong condemnation from Dmitry Medvedev, former Russian President and current Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council. Medvedev, a frequent critic and propagandist for the kremlin, labeled French President Emmanuel Macron a “Gallo Cock” and declared that such security guarantees for Russia are “unacceptable.”
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Medvedev wrote, “The Gallo-free Gille Cock cannot give up the idea of sending troops to Ukraine. It was clearly stated: no NATO power as a peacekeeping power. Such ‘security guarantees’ for Russia are acceptable.” The “Gallo Cock” is a reference to the French national symbol.
the discussion of a European military presence in Ukraine originated with Macron’s announcement of plans to establish a “discouraging force” as part of broader security guarantees for the country. This force would be comprised primarily of European soldiers, with potential support from the United States.
Medvedev continued his criticism, stating,”The hoarse, the gracious bird continues to sing, wanting to prove that he is the king of chicken.”
According to Bloomberg, the proposed security guarantees package being prepared by allies could include the deployment of European troops, potentially within a British-French framework. Details regarding the number of personnel and specific deployment locations are still being persistent.
The extent of US involvement remains unclear. President Trump stated to Fox News, “In terms of security, they are ready to send people there… we are ready to help them, especially – you could probably talk about air transport, as no one has what we have, they certainly don’t. But I don’t think that’s a problem.”
Dmitry Medvedev served as President of Russia from 2008 to 2012 and as Prime Minister from 2012 to 2020. He is known for his increasingly radical statements and staunch support of the Kremlin’s aggressive policies towards Ukraine and the West, previously stating, “we cannot press on the roads. And the sooner our opponent will understand it, the better.” He has previously been urged by President Trump to be more careful with his language.
