Sarah Michelle Gellar Confirms Return to ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer‘ in Revival Series

Sarah Michelle Gellar, the iconic star of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” officially confirmed her involvement in a reboot of the beloved series on February 23, 2024, via an Instagram post. The announcement follows months of speculation sparked by initial reports in February 2024. The revival is being spearheaded by 20th Television,a division of Disney Television Studios.

“So….. you might have heard some news this week, but I realize you haven’t heard from me,” Gellar wrote alongside a throwback photo from the original series.

The “Cruel Intentions” actress revealed that she was initially hesitant about revisiting the role, stating she “just didn’t see a way for the show to exist again.” However, a meeting with director Chloé Zhao, known for her Oscar-winning film “nomadland,” dramatically shifted her outlook.

Thier initial conversation lasted four hours, filled with laughter, tears, adn a shared recognition for the show’s enduring legacy.”We laughed, we cried, but mostly we both talked about how much this show means to us,” Gellar shared in her post.

“While I didn’t agree to anything at that meeting, I did shock myself by agreeing to continue the conversation,” she added.

Gellar emphasized her commitment to honoring the original series and its fanbase. She stated she has “always listened to the fans and heard your desire to revisit ‘Buffy’ and her world, but it was not something I could do unless I was sure we would get it right. This has been a long process, and it’s not over yet.”
