Young Driver Arrested After Multi-Vehicle Crash in Vilnius

A hit-and-run incident involving multiple vehicles occurred on Taikos Street in the Justiniškės district of Vilnius, Lithuania, on Tuesday, according to reports from DELFI. Police responded to the scene to find notable damage to seven parked cars.

Initial reports indicated a BMW vehicle collided with several parked automobiles before the driver fled the scene. Witnesses described the driver as a young man. The damaged vehicles included two Volkswagens, a Volvo, a Mazda,a Škoda, and another BMW.

Officers quickly launched a search for the suspect, focusing on a potential residence. Upon arriving at the location, police attempted to gain access via the intercom system, but were initially denied entry. However, officers observed two individuals exhibiting signs of intoxication on the staircase. One of the individuals attempted to evade capture,but was apprehended by responding officers.

A search of the suspects revealed potential narcotic substances on a 20-year-old male born in 2003. A 17-year-old male,born in 2006,was found to be free of prohibited items. Further investigation revealed the 17-year-old was responsible for the initial crash and had consumed alcohol *after* the incident.A breathalyzer test registered a blood alcohol content of 1.96 parts per mille,indicating a high level of intoxication.

The Vilnius police have initiated a pre-trial investigation into the incident, focusing on charges related to driving under the influence. Penalties for drunk driving in Lithuania can include substantial fines, licence suspension, and even imprisonment, depending on the severity of the offense and any resulting injuries.
