Fall Launch Promises Faster Data Access and Global Collaboration
Significant technology upgrades are set to revolutionize research, slashing download times and accelerating scientific discovery. The first phase of installations is underway, with enhanced speed and security features expected online this autumn.
Accelerating Discovery and Collaboration
The initial hardware installation will occur throughout the summer, paving the way for enhanced operational speeds this fall. Over the next year, the project will see further component installations, including a dedicated STEM storage center, as technology becomes available.
Housholder anticipates a dramatic increase in research iteration speed. Instead of waiting 40 minutes for a download [from another institution], now I’ll be able to download it in two minutes and explore the data instantly. I think peer review, collaboration and AB testing will happen much more quickly.
Housholder added, It’s also just exciting, because it’s hard to tell what we can’t do right now. But once we’re able to get this online, we hope to see new patterns of research emerge because of new opportunities.
Empowering Students and Global Partnerships
The new tools will equip students with advanced data analysis capabilities, preparing them for an evolving job market. Meyer Reimer highlighted that these advancements will ensure students remain at the forefront of technological progress.
Beyond technical skills, the upgrades will foster stronger international ties. Meyer Reimer stated, This will also allow us to better cooperate with colleagues in other countries. And a strength of Goshen College is our personal relationships across the world, and this allows us to continue that, and tap into international education from campus.
This technological leap aligns with global trends; for instance, the U.S. National Science Foundation reported that over 40% of research articles published in 2023 involved international collaboration, a figure expected to rise as digital infrastructure improves (NSF Science & Engineering Indicators 2024).
