KOTA KINABALU, Aug 3 – Prime Minister datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that Thailand and Cambodia selected Malaysia as the venue for their peace negotiations due to the nation’s political stability and burgeoning economy.

Malaysia, as a trusted ally, takes pride in its role in mediating the conflict between the two Asian nations, thereby contributing to regional peace and stability.

Cambodian defense Minister General Tea Seiha and Thai Acting Defence Minister General Natthaphon Narkphanit are scheduled to arrive in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow for in-depth discussions aimed at resolving the ongoing dispute between the neighboring countries.

“We are proud as a pleasant country and of Malaysia’s success in resolving the discord between two Asian countries. Imagine,they agreed in Kuala Lumpur. For the first time,we have been able to reconcile the war between two countries in Kuala Lumpur. Alhamdulillah,” Ibrahim stated.

He made these remarks during the closing ceremony of the 2025 National Farmers, breeders and Fishermen’s Day in Kota Kinabalu.

Attendees at the event included Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, and his deputy Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup.

Previously, on July 28, Thailand and Cambodia committed to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire following a special meeting in Putrajaya, which was presided over by Ibrahim in his capacity as the ASEAN chairman.

During that meeting, Thailand, represented by Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, and Cambodia, represented by prime Minister Hun Manet, also agreed to convene a General Border Committee meeting as part of the ceasefire accord.

Ibrahim highlighted that this diplomatic achievement has elevated Malaysia’s international standing, drawing commendation from global leaders, including U.S. President Donald J. Trump, who reportedly contacted him to express his thankfulness for Kuala Lumpur’s mediation efforts.

Furthermore, Malaysia has garnered attention and praise from leaders of other nations, including Germany, France, and various Asian countries.

“Various efforts where made, I contacted President Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping and finally we asked (negotiated) both (Thailand and Cambodia) to agree. Imagine them giving us their trust,” Ibrahim added.
