Alexander Zverev, the world’s third-ranked tennis player, recently revealed personal struggles following his early exit from Wimbledon.”I woudl say that this is rather a mental problem. I sometimes feel very alone. I fight mentally,” Zverev stated after his defeat to Arthur Rinderknech.
His compatriot, boris becker, commented on Zverev’s openness during an interview with Tennis365. Becker,a former Grand Slam champion, expressed empathy for Zverev but suggested that discussing such personal issues immediately after a Grand Slam elimination might not have been the best strategy. “If I had been his coach, I would have advised him not to reveal such details on his mental state during the Wimbledon press conference,” Becker said. “Ideally, we do not confide when you are eliminated in the first round of a Grand Slam tournament.”
Despite the recent setback, Becker remains optimistic about Zverev’s future. “It was perhaps the revelation he needed. I am convinced that he will win his big slam and that he can become number one at some point,” Becker added. “Becoming number one is arduous, but staying number one is the most difficult thing in the world.”
Zverev is set to compete in the Toronto Masters 1000, where he holds the top seed position following withdrawals from Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. He will aim to improve his recent performance and reverse his current trajectory.
