Watanabe Shota,a member of the popular group “Snow Man,” appeared as a guest on Fuji TV’s “Pokapoka” on July 25th. During the broadcast,a segment featured actor Yoshida Kotaro, who co-starred with Watanabe and actress Hata Meiku in the film “Accident Property Zone: Scary Floor Plans.” Yoshida, known to both Watanabe and Hata, shared an anecdote about their dynamic.
Yoshida recounted that while he praised both Watanabe and Hata for their acting and personalities during filming, he observed they were “fighting for a long time” during stage greetings. Watanabe explained this by saying, “Because it’s the same thing,” and humorously suggested Hata might be engaging in a “manzai” (a type of Japanese stand-up comedy) routine. He then playfully called out to both Hata and himself, “watanabe-san, Hata-san, please fight together today.”
Yoshida also commented on Hata’s initial demeanor, describing her as “two-faced” and “unfriendly.” However, he noted that she “tened” after watching a video, implying a shift in her attitude. Watanabe corroborated Yoshida’s observation, to which Hata responded with a lighthearted plea, “I want you to stop, they’ll kick me off right away. You’re trying hard to reduce my likeability.”
watanabe further elaborated on his perceived loss of likeability, stating that during a previous stage greeting meant to promote the film, his contributions were deemed irrelevant, and he felt unable to contribute effectively. He accused Hata of focusing on his perceived shortcomings. Hata, in turn, could only smile wryly, suggesting their playful banter was a sign of their close friendship.
Watanabe also offered insight into Hata’s personality off-camera, describing her as “really funny behind the scenes” but projecting a more serious “actor” persona when in front of the camera. He shared an instance where Hata, after a public appearance, asked, “Didn’t I look so cute now?” revealing a more playful side. Hata acknowledged this, admitting that while she finds it amusing, she can sometimes be perceived as “annoying” when she groans. She then quickly reverted to her professional persona, stating, “No, no, that’s not the case. I’m just going to be an actor.”
MC Sawabe yu of “Haraichi” expressed a desire to “break this down,” to which Watanabe responded with a smile, echoing the sentiment.
