Suspect Linked to at Least Six Burglaries
Authorities have apprehended a man suspected of a recent wave of car burglaries. The arrest occurred after observant officers witnessed him attempting to break into a vehicle.
Caught in the Act
The individual was apprehended on July 13th after being observed attempting to force entry into a car. Police later identified him as a person of interest in a series of six previous car break-ins that took place between July 9th and July 15th in the Osdorp and De Punt areas. He was rearrested today.

Osdorp Sees Surge in Vandalism
Earlier this week, reports indicated a notable increase in car break-ins specifically around Langswater street in Osdorp. Nineteen reports were filed over a two-week period. Local residents have described a recurring figure, a man seen surveying vehicles for potential theft, possibly seeking small amounts of cash.
It remains unclear if the man arrested today is connected to this wider pattern of incidents impacting the neighborhood.
In the United States, vehicle theft rates saw a slight increase in 2022 compared to the previous year, according to the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting Program (FBI 2022 Crime Statistics).
Ongoing Investigation
The investigation continues as authorities work to determine the full extent of the suspect’s alleged involvement. The current focus is on piecing together the timeline and gathering evidence.
