Indonesian Embassy Urges Caution After Deadly Thai-Cambodian Border Clashes

Indonesia Warns Citizens as Border Conflict Flares

Thai-Cambodian Clash Escalates, Prompting Diplomatic Alert

Indonesian citizens in Thailand are urged to exercise extreme caution following a severe escalation of armed conflict along the Thai-Cambodian border. The Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok has issued a direct advisory, highlighting heightened security risks in several border provinces.

Heightened Tensions Along the Frontier

The renewed hostilities, marked by rocket barrages, drone surveillance, and the deployment of landmines, have tragically resulted in the deaths of at least nine Thai civilians. This represents the most significant flare-up since a confrontation in May 2025 that claimed the life of a Cambodian soldier.

The embassy’s statement emphasized the importance of staying informed through official channels.

“The Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok urges Indonesian citizens in Thailand — particularly those in Surin, Buri Ram, Si Sa Ket, Sa Kaeo, Trat, and Ubon Ratchathani provinces — to closely monitor security developments through official sources and follow the guidance of local authorities.”

Embassy Urges Prudence and Registration

Currently, 15 Indonesian nationals are registered as residing in Thai provinces adjacent to the border, including Trat, Sa Kaeo, and Ubon Ratchathani. The embassy assured that no Indonesian citizens have been reported as casualties of the recent clashes.

“As of now, there have been no reports of Indonesian citizens affected by the clashes. We urge all Indonesians in the area to remain alert, stay calm, and avoid travel to the Thailand-Cambodia border region,” the advisory further stated.

Additionally, Indonesian citizens who have resided in Thailand for more than six months are reminded to register with Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry via its official online portal, a standard procedure to ensure consular support. This advisory comes amid ongoing tensions in Southeast Asia, with reports indicating a general increase in regional instability.
