West Indies vs Australia second T20 scorecard, live coverage, Josh Inglis fifty, Cameron Green, teams, video, stream, highlights, news

Green Shines as Australia Secures Series Win Amidst Fielding Woes

Cameron Green‘s stellar batting performance was the highlight for Australia as they clinched their T20 series against the West Indies, despite a shaky display in the field. Green’s crucial contributions in both recent Test matches and the Kingston T20s have solidified his reputation as Australia’s most consistent batsman.

The all-rounder has been instrumental in anchoring Australia’s run chases, scoring 51 in the first T20 in Kingston and an unbeaten 56 in the second. These performances have substantially boosted his T20 International career statistics. His overall T20I batting average now stands at an impressive 33.63 with a strike rate of 160.86. When batting in run chases, these numbers climb even higher to 49.40 and 169.17 respectively, with four half-centuries in just seven innings.

“He’s obviously a really valuable player for us,” commented Australian captain Mitchell Marsh during the post-match presentation.”He hasn’t played a lot of T20 cricket for Australia, partly because he’s played a lot of test cricket so far. The last two games have shown the talent he has. He’s a really crucial player for us moving forward.”

Green’s return to bowling will further bolster Australia’s starting XI, providing an additional seam-bowling option and strengthening his case for selection in next year’s T20 World cup in the subcontinent.

Fielding Fumbles Plague Australian Effort

Despite Green’s batting heroics, Australia endured a forgettable day in the field. The tourists dropped three catches and committed several sloppy misfields throughout the West Indies’ innings, inadvertently helping the home side post a competitive total.

Early in the innings, captain Mitchell Marsh grassed a difficult chance at cover, giving Roston Chase a reprieve when he was on 2. Chase went on to score another 14 runs before being dismissed by Adam Zampa. In the 12th over, a casual fumble by Ben Dwarshuis at mid-on conceded an extra run, and shortly after, Mitchell Owen was beaten by the spin near the boundary, resulting in a four. Youngster Cooper Connolly dropped a straightforward catch in the outfield with Rovman Powell on 4.Dwarshuis was again in the spotlight in the final over, putting down another regulation chance that denied Owen a wicket, only for Gudakesh Motie to hit the next delivery for six.

The fielding lapses drew sharp criticism from commentators. Former West Indies bowler Ian Bishop questioned, “What is going on with Australia in the field?” while former Test wicketkeeper Brad Haddin added, “It’s been a disappointing five overs in the field for Australia… you know they set high standards.”

Though, the West Indies where not immune to fielding errors themselves, dropping at least five catches during Australia’s run chase. “We need to sharpen up there,” Marsh acknowledged post-match.
