Durban Beach Closures: Which Beaches Are Open to Swim?

Durban’s coastline faces ongoing challenges with water quality, impacting swimming access at several popular beaches.The municipality is actively monitoring and updating the status of its beaches and pools due to elevated E. coli levels.

Durban beaches Currently Closed for Swimming

As of June 26th,the following beaches are not open for swimming,tho other recreational activities may still be permitted:

  • ANSTEY’S BEACH
  • REUNION
  • DOONSIDE BEACH
  • BRONZE BEACH

The municipality has stated that the status of thes beaches and pools will be updated as conditions change. “You can still enjoy other recreational activities at closed beaches. You just can’t swim,” a statement from the municipality clarified.

Durban Beaches Open for Swimming as of 26 June

Despite the closures, 19 beaches in Durban remain open for swimming. These beaches are accessible daily between 06:00 and 18:30:

  • TOTI MAIN BEACH

  • USHAKA
  • ADDINGTON
  • COUNTRY CLUB

  • SOUTH BEACH
  • WEDGE BEACH
  • MDLOTI MAIN
  • BATTERY BEACH
  • WINKLESPRUIT
  • BRIGHTON
  • WESTBROOK
