Reality show Contestant Injured in Stunt, Sparks Safety Concerns
A contestant on “Miss Universe Latina, El Reality” suffered an injury during a recent challenge, leading to widespread criticism regarding the show’s safety protocols.
Laura Pérez, a 26-year-old Cuban model residing in Florida, was participating in a challenge that required contestants to jump from a platform approximately 3 meters (nearly 10 feet) high in an attempt to grab a crown. Pérez fell during the stunt. Social media users have attributed the accident to a lack of safety measures, noting that Pérez appeared to have been without a protective harness and initially landed on her feet before collapsing moments later.
Medical personnel immediately attended to Pérez, and the live broadcast was cut. Shortly after, host Jacqueline Bracamontes announced that the security challenge had been canceled.
Telemundo has not yet released an official statement regarding the incident. However, the show has faced meaningful backlash online, with critics alleging inadequate safety precautions for the participants.
“How is it possible for contestants to risk their lives in silly challenges and, worse, not even have security?” one user commented on X.
Pérez was one of 30 contestants vying for a spot in Miss Universe 2025, scheduled to take place in Thailand in November.
