Apple has initiated legal proceedings in California against technology personality Jon Prosser. The tech giant alleges that Prosser violated trade secret laws and the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act by publishing previews of the forthcoming operating system, then known as iOS 19, on his YouTube channel. This information was reported by 9to5Mac.
According to the report, Prosser began releasing detailed reconstructions of unannounced features, including a redesigned camera interface and a feature referred to as the “liquid ice cream” update, in January, well before Apple’s official announcements.Apple’s examination, prompted by a tip in April, reportedly identified Michael Ramacciotti,a freind of an apple employee,as the source of the leaks. The company claims Ramacciotti tracked the employee’s location, bypassed their passcode, and accessed a developer iPhone to showcase the unreleased system via video call.
Prosser afterward recorded these video calls and uploaded the content to his channel, generating advertising revenue.Apple contends that the leaked material not only revealed current features but also other confidential design elements, and suggests that Prosser may possess additional proprietary information.
In its lawsuit, Apple is seeking a jury trial, compensation for damages including punitive damages, an injunction to prevent further dissemination of confidential information, and the return or destruction of all proprietary materials. The company also seeks reimbursement for its legal and preliminary investigation expenses.
Prosser has publicly denied Apple’s account of the events on social media, asserting that he obtained the information through alternative means.
