Jack Dorsey Debuts Sun Day App for UV Tracking
Twitter Co-founder Explores Health Tech with New iOS Tool
Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey continues his app development endeavors with the recent release of “Sun Day,” a new application designed to help users monitor their ultraviolet (UV) light exposure and Vitamin D synthesis. This follows his earlier launch of a Bluetooth messaging app named Bitchat.
Sun Day: Your Personal Sun Exposure Guide
The Sun Day application is currently accessible via Apple’s TestFlight platform for iOS users. Its source code is also publicly available on GitHub, allowing for community review and adaptation.

**Dorsey** is leveraging modern coding practices, opting for an open-source tool named Goose for development, rather than commercially available AI coding assistants.
How Sun Day Works
The app provides users with the current UV Index for their location, alongside meteorological details such as cloud cover and sunrise/sunset times. Users can select one of six skin types and specify their clothing coverage.
Based on these inputs, Sun Day calculates the estimated time before skin begins to burn. It also tracks estimated Vitamin D intake. By initiating a tracking session, users can then see their cumulative Vitamin D gain for the day.
The importance of understanding UV exposure is underscored by rising skin cancer rates. In the United States, there are an estimated 3.7 million cases of basal cell and squamous cell skin cancer diagnosed annually (American Academy of Dermatology). Apps like Sun Day aim to provide users with personalized guidance for safer sun exposure.
