Space Scum shares similarities with the strategy game Battle Brothers, challenging players to carefully pick their battles and manage their resources in a harsh environment. Success yields loot and experience, allowing players to improve their growing army.

Developer’s Perspective

“We don’t apologize – Space Scum is a debilitating experience where failure has serious consequences,” says Simon Reynolds, developer at Sole Survivor Games. He added, “But with challenging games, the feeling of satisfaction is if you learn from your mistakes and apply the lessons of earlier failures, unparalleled. That’s why we made Space Scum.”

The unforgiving nature of Space Scum is a key design choice. According to a 2023 report by the Entertainment Software Association, strategy games are increasingly focusing on providing challenging, yet rewarding, experiences for players (ESA 2023).

Gamescom Debut

Space Scum will be featured at the Indie Arena Booth during Gamescom 2025 in Germany. Gamers will have an opportunity for hands-on experience.
