amidst the pressures of medical records, 24-hour shifts, and continuous study, these doctors have discovered a form of empowerment and hope in soccer. This marks the first time a women’s team of doctors will represent Colombia in the World Medical Soccer Championship.

More Than Just a Game

This achievement is a milestone in the history of female sports and significantly enhances the visibility of women in medicine.The team proudly proclaims on social media, we are medical. We are soccer players. We are Colombia. This simple yet powerful statement encapsulates their dual identity as dedicated doctors and passionate athletes.

The Genesis of a Dream

The journey began with Dr. nikolle Cedano, who, driven by a shared aspiration, gathered over 140 doctors from across Colombia in a WhatsApp group. Her vision was to create a team that woudl make history. Among them was Luz Adriana Gómez Ramírez, a resident in Emergency Medicine at CES University, who recalls that initial call with great emotion.

We begin to organize by regions, we train and build ties that go beyond sport. Today not only play for fulfilling Luza de la Children, JIn this team that has become home.

Since then, the doctors have participated in intensive training sessions in cali, Antioquia, and Ibagué, often training before dawn to prepare for their international debut.

Balancing lives Between Hospital and Field

Natalia Vargas Grisales, a resident in Physical Activity and Sports Medicine, has been a lifelong soccer enthusiast.She describes her return to the sport after a 12-year hiatus as transformative.

By the profession I had to leave it behind almost 12 years ago. Back to him has been to have mental peace, physical activity, desire. It’s the best thing that happened to me after 30.

Natalia recalls that until September of last year, there was only a male team of soccer doctors. I prepared and was summoned after the first national tournament. It has been a dream fulfilled.

For both Natalia and Luz Adriana,meticulous planning and unwavering commitment have been essential. It has been a challenge to combine residence with football.But when you do things with love and purpose,you find the form. Motivation is everything, says Luz adriana,who also appreciates the support from her university.

Allison Dávila Bernal, a sports coach and specialist in training theory, brings her expertise to the team. Recommended by professor Luis Gómez from the male category, she has become an integral part of the team.

In many teams I have been the only woman coach,But I have never felt a gender difference. Thay have made me feel at par.

The Financial Hurdles

Despite their dedication, the cost of traveling to Ireland is substantial. With most team members still in training, financing the trip, uniforms, and accommodations has been a notable challenge. To overcome this, they have launched a fundraising campaign on the Vaki platform.

We seek to add hearts that create in this project, that they believe in the women who care, who fight, who dream, and who also represent our country, the team explains.

The achievements of these doctors extend beyond securing a spot in the World Cup.They are paving the way for future generations, demonstrating that medical excellence and athletic talent are not mutually exclusive but complementary.
