Dyson Unveils pencilvac: The “World’s Slimmest Vacuum Cleaner”
Dyson is redefining home cleaning with its latest innovation: the PencilVac. The company claims it is the world’s slimmest vacuum cleaner.
This new device reimagines the traditional vacuum form factor, integrating the battery, motor, and electronics into a remarkably thin handle.
At just 38 millimeters in diameter-the same thickness as Dyson’s Supersonic r hair dryer-the PencilVac weighs less than four pounds. It is powered by Dyson’s smallest and fastest vacuum motor to date.
A New Approach to Hard Floor cleaning
The PencilVac is designed as a successor to the Dyson Omni-glide, which launched in 2021. While the Omni-glide featured a unique cleaning head with two spinning brushes for multi-directional cleaning, the PencilVac takes innovation a step further.
The new model is not only slimmer and lighter but also incorporates four spinning brush bars, which Dyson has dubbed “Fluffycones.”
Fluffycones and Enhanced Features
The Fluffycones are designed to prevent hair tangling. As the name suggests, the Fluffycones each feature a conical design that causes long hairs to slide down to the narrow end of each brush and fall off so they can be sucked up rather of getting tangled up around the brushes.
This design ensures efficient and hassle-free cleaning.
For improved edge cleaning, the Fluffycones slightly protrude at the sides.Instead of the lasers found in other Dyson vacuums, the PencilVac uses green LED lights to illuminate dust and debris, ensuring thorough cleaning even in dimly lit areas.
Technological Innovations
Dyson has packed several innovations into the PencilVac. The motor, only 28mm in diameter, spins at an extraordinary 140,000 RPM, generating 55 Air Watts (AW) of suction. A new two-stage dust filtration system prevents clogging and maintains performance as the dust bin fills.
While the PencilVac has a smaller dust bin compared to Dyson’s larger models, it features a new design that compresses dust as it’s removed from the airflow. This maximizes the bin’s capacity, allowing for longer cleaning sessions.
Smart Features and Functionality
the PencilVac includes several user-kind features. It magnetically connects to a floor dock for charging and storage. A small LCD screen displays the cleaning mode and provides an estimate of the remaining battery life.
Notably, the pencilvac is Dyson’s frist vacuum to connect to the MyDyson mobile app. The app offers access to additional settings, alerts for filter cleaning, and step-by-step maintenance instructions.
Trade-offs and Limitations
The PencilVac’s slim design does come with certain limitations. Its cleaning head is designed for use on hard floors, not carpeting.
While alternate attachments like furniture and crevice tools can be used, it does not convert to a shorter handheld vacuum.
Battery life is limited to 30 minutes on the lowest power setting. Though, the battery is swappable, and Dyson will offer additional batteries for extended cleaning sessions.
Availability
While Dyson has not yet announced pricing details, the PencilVac is slated to launch in Japan later this year. U.S. consumers will have to wait until 2026 for its availability.
