“I will cut off their heads”: the 92-year-old without a license is caught behind the wheel again

They confiscated the car of the 92-year-old man from Sliven, who was stopped on the road drunk and without a license. The reason – he was again driving the car without license plates during a pre-trial proceeding. Stefan Stefanov will be tried for the repeated violation, the prosecutor’s office in Sliven told bTV.

Saturday, 11 a.m., in the center of Sliven. A driver photographed Stefan Stefanov, who was stopped by the police on March 8 without a license and with alcohol. He’s behind the wheel of the same car again – this time without license plates. The police in Sliven checked the report and found the car in a garage near the home of the offender.

“In the morning we watched the video, we identified the witness who made the recording. We have coordinated our actions with the District Attorney’s Office and a new pre-trial proceeding is underway for the vehicle being driven after its registration was suspended. The car is currently being inspected. With the inspection report, it will be seized in connection with a newly established pre-trial proceeding,” explained the head of the “Security Police” sector in Sliven, Dimitar Kikiov.

Neighbors claim that the man often buys alcohol from a nearby store.

“He had fallen and the neighbors picked him up one evening and took him home, he was hit. In my opinion, the police should just take his car keys because there is no other solution. His daughter can’t handle him,” said Albena Dimitrova.

“He went to put the car in the garage and there was actually no room, he couldn’t get it in and he came here again,” his daughter said.

Her father found out from the bTV team that his car had been taken.

“Did they confiscate it? I will cut off their heads. And do you know why? Because I was in camps and prisons for justice at the age of 17. There is no justice. Did I drive the car again? Hey, I’m a very big criminal,” said Stefan Stefanov.

The District Prosecutor’s Office in Sliven told bTV that the 92-year-old man will be tried and will probably receive an administrative penalty.

“His license was revoked in July 2022 for driving after consuming alcohol, and the vehicle’s registration was suspended at that time. He was subsequently found to be driving an unregistered vehicle on March 8, again under the influence of alcohol. This is extremely dangerous management,” said chief inspector Iliyan Nikolov, head of the “Road Police” sector in Sliven.

From Stara Zagora, the Minister of the Interior commented on the case with the sanctioned driver as a job well done by the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, but directed attention to other law enforcement agencies as well

“Don’t forget to ask them what measures they are taking so that we don’t catch the same people five times, whether transporting migrants or loaded onto cars,” emphasized Ivan Demerdzhiev.
