Operational Resilience Amidst Challenges
Despite regional challenges that impacted airspace during May and June, Dubai International Airport maintained high operating levels. **Paul Griffiths**, CEO of Dubai Airports, commented on the situation, saying,
“The continuous growth of the movement of travelers at Dubai International Airport during a period that witnessed many regional challenges is a clear indication of the strength of Dubai and the United Arab Emirates and the flexibility of our operational operations.”

Record-Breaking Months and Projections
The second quarter of 2025 saw 22.5 million passengers, a 3.1% increase from the previous year. April 2025 emerged as the busiest April in DXB’s history, with 8 million passengers passing through its terminals. On average, the airport handled 7.7 million passengers monthly in the first half, with January recording a high of 8.5 million.
The airport facilitated over 222,000 flights in the first half, maintaining a seat occupancy rate of 76%. Baggage handling efficiency was also exceptional, with 41.8 million bags processed, 91% delivered within 45 minutes, significantly exceeding the global rate for delayed bags. Projections suggest total passenger traffic could reach 96 million by year-end, with potential to break the 100 million mark in 2026, making DXB potentially the first airport globally to achieve this feat.
In a testament to its efficiency, 99.2% of passengers cleared passport control in under 10 minutes, 98.4% completed passport procedures in under 15 minutes, and 98.7% cleared security in under 5 minutes.
Top Markets and Global Connectivity
India remained the primary market for DXB, contributing 5.9 million passengers. Saudi Arabia followed with 3.6 million, then the United Kingdom (3 million), Pakistan (2.1 million), and the United States (1.6 million). London led city destinations with 1.8 million passengers, followed by Riyadh, Mumbai, Jeddah, Delhi, and Istanbul.
Cargo Operations and Network Expansion
The airport also handled over a million tons of cargo, a slight increase from the previous year, reinforcing its role in supporting global trade and logistics. Dubai International Airport currently connects to more than 269 destinations in 107 countries via 92 airlines, solidifying Dubai’s status as a premier hub for aviation, commerce, tourism, and investment.
