2024 Grammy Nominations Announced: Lady Gaga & kendrick Lamar Lead Album of the Year Race
LOS ANGELES,CA – Nominations for the 2024 Grammy Awards are here,setting the stage for a competitive awards season culminating in a ceremony on February 1,2025,in Los angeles. Lady Gaga and Kendrick Lamar are considered frontrunners in the coveted Album of the Year category,according to Billboard music magazine journalist Paul Grein,who identifies Lamar as a “slight favorite” but cautions against underestimating Gaga’s widespread appeal.
The nominations include a diverse range of artists and genres. Miley Cyrus’s “Something Lovely” and Teddy Swims’s “I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy (Part 1)” are among the nominated works. Three rap albums received nods: tyler the Creator’s Chromakopia, clipse’s Let God Sort Em Out, and GNX.
Notably, Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl was ineligible for consideration as it was released after the nomination deadline.
Bad Bunny garnered six nominations, including chances for Album of the Year, Best Recording, and Best Song. The k-pop genre is represented with nominations for Golden, from the Netflix film K-pop: Demon Hunter, and “APT,” a collaboration between Rosé and Bruno Mars. Rei Ami,a vocalist from the fictional group Huntr/x featured on “Golden,” expressed surprise at the song’s success,stating,”I never thought we’d be this accomplished. We’re still processing it.”
The Record of the Year category features “APT” alongside Lady Gaga’s “Abracadabra,” Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “Luther,” and Bad Bunny’s “DtMF.”
Competing for Best New Artist are Olivia Dean, the girl group Katseye, Leon Thomas, and Alex Warren. Thomas, who blends R&B and soul, is also nominated for Album of the Year with his record Mutt.
Over 15,000 members of the US National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences will determine the winners.
