National Amateur Boxing Championships to Draw Thousands to Lubbock
LUBBOCK, Texas – Lubbock will host the 2025 USA Boxing National Championships at the Lubbock Civic Center from December 8-13, bringing an estimated thousands of athletes, coaches, and spectators to the city. The event will feature over 900 amateur boxers from 46 states competing for national titles and a pathway toward potential Olympic qualification.
The championships are a crucial step in identifying potential Team USA boxers for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, according to Michael Campbell, an events and operations representative for USA Boxing. “This national championship is very notable as it’s on the road towards Los Angeles…this is going to start our qualification procedure to see who will be our boxers in that tournament,” Campbell stated.
Visit Lubbock anticipates a significant economic impact from the event. Scott Harrison,director of sports for visit Lubbock,estimates over 1,000 boxers,approximately 900 coaches,75-100 officials,and 25-50 support staff will be in attendance. “We have seats for about 1,500 people, so basically we’re filling up the whole civic center for ten days,” Harrison said.
Beyond the competition itself,the event offers fans a chance to witness emerging talent. “Some of those faces you will see in the boxing ring in Los Angeles will be here boxing and competing in this tournament,” Campbell added, encouraging fans of both the Olympics and combat sports to attend.
USA Boxing is actively working to establish lubbock as a consistent host for national sporting events.Campbell highlighted the association’s efforts to connect with other national governing bodies in combat sports, including judo, karate, taekwondo, and fencing, to bring additional events to the city. “Being in Colorado Springs, we have a lot of other friends there…and we often try to make those connections to keep the pipeline going to keep the city busy and viable and hosting Olympic sports,” he explained.
