TCG Announces $1 Million in Grants to Uplift Theatres of Color Nationwide
NEW YORK CITY – Theater Communications Group (TCG) has awarded grants totaling $1 million to eight Black, Indigenous, and Theatres of Color (BITOC) across the United States through it’s THRIVE!: Uplifting Theatres of Color program [[1]]. The program, a collaboration between TCG and the Theater League of Kansas City [[1]], provides unrestricted general operating support to these vital organizations.

House House (Cleveland, OH) [[1]]
North Carolina Black Repertory company (Winston-Salem, NC) [[1]]
Spanish Repertorio (New York City, NY) [[1]]
St. Louis Black Repertory Company (St.Louis, MO) [[1]]
Ensemble Theatre (Houston, TX) [[1]]
A Critical Investment in Equity & resilience
“These grants recognize the enduring power and resilience of BITOC and community-serving theatres,” stated Emilya Cachapero, TCG co-executive director of national and global programming. “We’re grateful for the Theater League of Kansas City’s commitment to uplifting the transformative work happening across these organizations.” [[1]]
The THRIVE! program is specifically designed to address the systemic barriers faced by BITOC, which have historically been excluded from customary funding avenues.The unrestricted nature of the grants allows these theatres the versatility to address their most pressing needs.
Mark Edelman, president of the Theater League of Kansas City, emphasized the importance of the program, stating, “The geographic, social, and cultural diversity of these groups makes this program especially important today, as the performing arts find themselves under siege from traditional public support.” [[1]]
