Simona Halep beat Venus Williams with Serena at the Australian Open

MWelcome and welcome to the coverage of the third round between Simona Halep and Venus Williams.

Incredibly, the Australian Open organizers did not select this heavyweight contest at their main Rod Laver Arena, but chose the Margaret Court Arena environment.

Do not worry, though we'll pay our full attention to you as we bring you the latest in the Australian games of today's games for the nightly session. Alexander Zverev will play against local hero Alex Bolt before I decide on the women's draw, seventh Karolina Pliskova, 27-year-old Camila Giorgi.

Halep's goal is to fight for third place in the third round. The # 1 in the world was struggling with shape and fitness going into the opening Grand Slam, and a couple of Test opponents in Melbourne did not help.

It will not be any easier against a two-time Aussie Open finalist in Venus Williams. Venus has won three out of five direct competitors, even though Halep was ahead in the last two meetings - most recently in Montreal last year.

The winner of this duel will face Serena Williams after the 23-time Grand Slam champion sneaked into the second week with a set victory over Dayana Yastremska.

The 18-year-old, who was not born when Serena won the first of her 23 Grand Slam singles titles, only won three games at 6-2, 6-1.
