A 37-year-old man was sentenced Thursday by the Assize Court of Seine-et-Marne to 25 years of criminal imprisonment
for the murder of his five-year-old boy, whom he had smothered after a separation.
The body of the child was found in the trunk of his car on December 15, 2016. The man immediately admitted to having killed his son with a cushion a week earlier in his apartment in Dammarie-les-Lys, near Melun. During the trial which opened on Tuesday, he explained that, overcome by the separation with the mother of the child, he had got into alcohol and cannabis that night, before seizing the cushion in the morning.
An "obvious" desire for revenge
Attorney General Béatrice Angelelli had required 30 years of criminal imprisonment. He "held the pressure" for several minutes on the child who said "dad", he had "all the opportunity to stop," she pointed. "The revenge is obvious in this case. By killing his child, he disposes of his wife, "she said.
It's "the thing that freed me from all commitment to you," he wrote to his ex-companion a few weeks after the murder. "I blame you, you can not know how I blame myself", sobbed Wednesday the accused, who had tried to commit suicide during the wandering days preceding the discovery of the body and was temporarily interned after his arrest . He had then, he said, renounced to end his days in order to "be able to explain himself at the trial".
