Zurich Emergency Response: Fire, Police & Ambulance at the Scene

A 63-year-old woman sustained serious injuries after being struck by a car while crossing a pedestrian crossing in Uitikon-Waldegg, Zurich, on Thursday evening. The incident occurred at approximately 4:25 PM on Birmensdorferstrasse, near the intersection with Stallikerstrasse, according to a statement released by the Canton Police of Zurich.

The driver, a 79-year-old man, was traveling towards Birmensdorf when the collision took place. The circumstances leading to the accident are currently under investigation by the Canton Police and the Public Prosecutor’s Office, authorities stated. The injured woman was transported to Limmattal Hospital by ambulance for treatment.

The accident caused significant traffic disruption, with alternating one-way traffic control implemented for approximately two and a half hours. Firefighters from Uitikon Waldegg, along with paramedics and a doctor from Limmattal Hospital, were dispatched to the scene to assist with the emergency response, police reported.

Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the extent of the woman’s injuries or the condition of the driver. The investigation into the cause of the accident remains ongoing, and a spokesperson for the Canton Police of Zurich, Carmen Surber, is handling media inquiries.
