Zubeen Garg, Renowned Indian Singer, Dies in Singapore Scuba Diving Accident
Singapore – Celebrated Indian singer Zubeen Garg has died following a scuba diving accident in Singapore, according to reports surfacing November 13, 2023. He was 64 years old.
Garg, a prolific artist with a career spanning more than three decades, recorded over 38,000 songs in nearly 40 languages, captivating audiences across genres, cultures, and generations. He frist captured the creativity of his home state of Assam with his debut album, Anamika, in 1992, a landmark release in the region’s music scene.
Throughout his career,Garg received numerous accolades,including the Global Indian Music Award,the Filmfare Award (East),multiple Prag Cine Awards,and the Assam State Film Award.
Beyond his musical achievements, Garg was known for his humanitarian work and strong social conscience. During the Covid-19 pandemic, he transformed his Guwahati residence into a care center, providing shelter and medical support to patients. He was a vocal advocate for tea garden workers and environmental conservation, and actively mentored young talent throughout the north-east.
Assam Chief minister himanta Biswa Sarma mourned Garg’s passing, calling him the state’s “truest cultural ambassador.” “Today, Assam lost one of its favorite sons. Zubeen’s voice had an unmatched ability to energise people, and his music spoke directly to our minds and souls. He has left a void that will never be filled. Our future generations will remember him as a stalwart of Assam’s culture. that magical voice has forever gone silent. Tragic beyond words!” Sarma wrote on X.
