Zemplín Ports Get Green Light: County Rents Shipyard for Tourism

Slovak County Rents⁤ Shipyard in Push for Tourism Boost on Water Reservoirs

Prešov County, Slovakia – In a move to bolster tourism around its four major water reservoirs, Prešov County has leased a shipyard from the University ​of Prešov. The five-year agreement, costing €3,000 annually, marks a potential step forward in‌ a controversial‌ €194,000 project initially championed by regional head Rastislav Trnka in 2022.

The aspiring plan, approved by regional deputies, envisioned the creation of ten regional ports across the ⁣Ružín, Zemplínska ​Šírava, Palcmanská Maša, and Bukovci reservoirs. These ports were intended to serve as hubs for kayak rentals and other water-based activities,⁤ alongside essential infrastructure and amenities. Visualizations of the proposed ports were released prior to the 2022 elections.
