Zelensky Reportedly Sought Tomahawk Missiles from Trump, Aiming for Negotiations with Putin

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky requested Tomahawk missiles from former U.S. President Donald trump during a recent meeting at the United Nations General Assembly, according to reports citing multiple sources. Zelensky reportedly framed the request as a means to compel Russian President Vladimir Putin to the negotiating table for peace talks.

Following the meeting, Zelensky stated that Trump had agreed to consider his proposal for supplying long-range, winged missiles. The specific type requested appears to be the Tomahawk, which boasts a range of 2500 kilometers and carries a 450 kg warhead – considerably exceeding the capabilities of similar long-range weaponry currently provided to Ukraine by Western allies.

U.S. Secretary of State Marko Rubio reportedly advised European colleagues to view TrumpS altered stance on Ukraine “as positive as possible,” according to sources within diplomatic circles. Rubio also indicated that Trump expressed importent frustration with Putin’s lack of response to his attempts to resolve the conflict, which has been ongoing for three and a half years.

It remains uncertain whether Zelensky’s request for Tomahawk missiles will be fulfilled. A similar request was previously denied by former President Joe Biden as part of Zelensky’s ten-point “victory plan” presented towards the end of Biden’s presidency.
