Kyiv - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned a “ruthless attack” after a Russian strike hit a main government building in Kyiv on Sunday, as widespread attacks across Ukraine left multiple people dead and injured.
Zelensky reported casualties in several regions, including one death in safonivka, Sumy region, and another in the Chernihiv region. In Zaporizhzhia, 17 people were injured when strikes hit homes, a nursery, and other buildings, according to regional governance head Ivan Fedorov. Fedorov also reported a woman killed and a man missing after a Russian glide bomb struck Novopavlivka village.
In Kyiv, Valentina, a resident, was sleeping when her apartment was struck by a drone, according to reports.
Russia also targeted Kryvyi Rih, Zelensky’s hometown, damaging three infrastructure facilities. Air raid warnings were activated across all Ukrainian regions overnight.
Meanwhile, Ukraine launched strikes into Russia. The Russian defense ministry claimed its forces downed or intercepted 69 Ukrainian drones in multiple regions. At least three civilians were killed and buildings damaged in the Belgorod region, according to governor Vyacheslav Gladkov. Ukrainian unmanned aerial forces commander Robert Brovdi said a pumping station on the Druzhba oil pipeline in Russia’s Bryansk region was struck.
The attacks follow a Paris summit where Western proposals for a “reassurance force” in Ukraine following any ceasefire were rejected by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned Sunday’s attacks, stating Putin “believes he can act with impunity” and ”is not serious about peace.” French President Emmanuel Macron announced 26 of Ukraine’s allies had formally committed to deploying troops “by land, sea or air” to provide security once fighting stops, though details remain scarce.Putin warned any troops deployed to Ukraine would be considered “legitimate targets.”
Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and currently controls approximately 20% of Ukrainian territory, including the Crimean peninsula, annexed in 2014.
