Ukraine to Recieve 100 French Rafale Warplanes, zelenskiy Announces
Paris/Kyiv – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated on Monday that France will supply ukraine wiht 100 Rafale fighter jets, a important boost to Kyiv’s air power as it continues its defense against Russia’s invasion. The declaration, made during a joint press conference with French President emmanuel Macron in Paris, signals a deepening of military cooperation between the two nations.
The delivery of 100 Rafale warplanes represents a considerable commitment from France and a pivotal moment in Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to modernize its air force. This influx of advanced aircraft is intended to bolster Ukraine’s defensive capabilities, enabling it to more effectively counter Russian aerial attacks and support ground operations. The agreement comes as Ukraine presses for increased Western military aid to sustain its war effort and as France seeks to reaffirm its role as a key security partner for Kyiv.
Zelenskiy detailed that pilots and technicians will begin training in France immediately, with the first aircraft expected to be delivered in the coming months. He emphasized the importance of French support, stating, “This is a historic day. France is demonstrating its unwavering commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
Macron affirmed France’s dedication to supporting Ukraine “for as long as it takes,” adding that the Rafale jets will be instrumental in strengthening Ukraine’s air defense and offensive capabilities. He also announced further details of a security agreement signed between the two countries, outlining long-term commitments to military assistance, financial support, and security cooperation.
The Rafale is a multirole combat aircraft capable of performing a wide range of missions, including air-to-air combat, ground attack, and reconnaissance. Its advanced technology and weaponry will provide Ukraine with a significant advantage in the air, potentially shifting the dynamics of the conflict.
This agreement builds upon previous French military aid to Ukraine, which has included artillery systems, armored vehicles, and anti-aircraft missiles. France has pledged over €3 billion in military assistance to Ukraine since the start of the conflict in February 2022.
