Zayda Steel describes first ROH PPV main event as kid in a candy store
Zayda Steel wrestled in the first-ever Women’s Survival of the Fittest Match and reached the main event of the Ring of Honor Supercard of Honor, vying for the ROH Women’s World Championship. Reflecting on her rapid rise from her December debut on the Final Battle pre-show, Steel described the main event atmosphere during an interview on “Muscle Memory,” as reported by Wrestling Inc., by saying she felt like “a kid in a candy store.”
From Pre-Show Debut to Pay-Per-View Main Event
The five-month span between her December introductory appearance and her title match placed the competitor directly into a six-woman elimination format designed to crown or sustain a champion. Steel recalled feeling intense nerves ahead of the bell, noting that her mentor, Christopher Daniels, helped her. He repped me out on the indies,
Steel told “Muscle Memory,” as noted by Wrestling Inc. Would he not do it on a live pay-per-view, my first pay-per-view? I was first eliminated. We’re not going to talk about that, but it was first pay-per-view jitters. It was my first time main-eventing. I was a kid in a candy store.
The match ended for Steel when defending champion Athena drove her through a chair, securing the first elimination before Athena ultimately retained the title by last eliminating Maya World.
Working Under Tony Khan Across ROH and AEW
Steel currently performs for both Ring of Honor and All Elite Wrestling, promotions run by Tony Khan. Describing the environment behind the curtain, Steel pointed to Khan’s active engagement with the product during live broadcasts. He’s literally the biggest wrestling fan,
Steel said on “Muscle Memory,” according to Wrestling Inc. He is. He loves it. I’ll listen to him like in Gorilla react to the [moves]. He’s in love with wrestling there. I love wrestling. So it’s great working for him. He loves this just like I do. And what you see is what you get with Tony.
