Yung Miami Addresses Split From JT in Emotional New Song
“Reminiscing in my feelings bout 2018, it was a scene,” Yung Miami raps on her new track “Dear JT”, addressing her estranged friendship with former City Girls bandmate JT. The song features a melancholic beat and emotional background vocals from Tiffany Evans, who reinforces the message in the chorus and outro by repeatedly harmonizing, “Ooh, I’m missin’ you.”
City Girls Recall Their Rise to Fame
Packed with bars in which Miami bittersweetly plays back memories alongside JT through the years, the track touches on experiences ranging from getting into fights to shopping in Barcelona. The two formed City Girls in 2017 after having been friends long before. Their song “Fu*k Dat Ni**a” blew up in late 2017, leading to a breakout year in 2018 when they signed a record deal with Quality Control and dropped both their debut mixtape and debut album. During that time, Yung Miami made a cameo in Drake’s “In My Feelings” music video, boosting the group’s popularity. The duo achieved consistent commercial success by releasing three studio albums and earning numerous awards and nominations.
Solo Aspirations Lead to Group Split
Underlying tensions regarding sneak disses in songs and solo career aspirations boiled over following their 2023 album, RAW. The pair engaged in a back-and-forth argument on social media in early 2024 before splitting later that year, remaining estranged ever since.
Miami Describes Emotional Process Behind New Song
In an interview with HOT 97 that dropped on the album’s release day, Miami opened up about her thought process behind creating the song, stating that she cried while making it and wanted to address what was on her heart. Miami noted that she did not get to show JT the song before releasing it and that JT has not responded yet. However, she stated, If the phone call happens, I’ma answer it, and we’ll go from there.
