Youngstown, ohio – A poignant Saturday morning unfolded at Beeghly Natatorium as the Youngstown State University (YSU) men’s and Women’s Swimming and diving teams celebrated 16 seniors during their final dual meet against IUPUI. The event was marked by strong performances from both teams, showcasing their dedication and skill as they prepare for the upcoming Horizon League Championships.
Penguins Dominate in Relays and Individual Events
The YSU men’s team kicked off the day with a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Quinn cynor, James Slessor, Jacob gramer, and Lorenz Beck combined for a winning time of 1:27.60. The women’s 200-medley relay team, comprised of Chloe Moore, Hannah Murray, Allison Ramirez Romero,and Orla Maccines, secured a close second-place finish with a time of 1:46.21.
Individual Performances Shine
Individual performances were equally notable.Olivia Sweetman dominated the women’s freestyle events, winning both the 200-yard free (1:51.35) and the 500-yard free (5:01.29).Her victory in the 200 free was particularly close, edging out the second-place finisher by just 0.19 seconds. Orla Maccines contributed to the Penguins’ success with a third-place finish in the 200 free (1:53.76) and a first-place finish in the women’s 50 fly (25.12).
on the men’s side, Pablo Santos led the way in the 200-yard free with a time of 1:39.34, while Seif Elbatal secured a second-place finish in the 500-yard free (4:39.17). Quinn Cynor also had a strong showing, winning the men’s 100 backstroke (48.36) and contributing to the winning medley relay team. Elliot Elmore took first place in the men’s 50 backstroke with a time of 22.96.
Strong Finishes and Looking Ahead
The Penguins continued to demonstrate their competitive spirit throughout the meet.Hannah Murray secured a win in the women’s 100 IM (59.22), while James Slessor finished as the runner-up in both the men’s 50 breaststroke (24.91) and the 100 breaststroke (54.56). Both the men’s and women’s 200-free relay teams finished second, showcasing the team’s depth and versatility.
In diving events, Zachary Lao and Rafael Serey-cormier tied for second place in the men’s three-meter dive (309.60), and Hanna Held earned a third-place finish in the women’s one-meter dive (240.83).
Beeghly Natatorium: A Hub for YSU Swimming and diving
The meet took place at Beeghly Natatorium, a state-of-the-art facility that serves as the home for the Youngstown State swimming and diving programs [[1]]. The natatorium features a 25-yard by 50-meter pool with 10 lanes,ranging in depth from six to 16 feet,and a dedicated diving well [[2]]. As part of the larger Beeghly Center, which boasts 197,000 square feet of space [[2]], it provides a thorough training and competition environment for the Penguins.
