Woman Faces Charges After Forest Fire Ignited Following Woodland Toilet Break

VÄSTERVIK, Sweden⁣ – A young woman is facing prosecution for general⁣ carelessness after a fire she inadvertently ⁤started during ‍a bathroom break in the forest ⁢near helgerum, ‍Västervik municipality, spread to burn an area roughly the size of half a football pitch. The incident, ‍which⁤ occurred in July, highlighted “extremely high fire risk” conditions across Sweden at the time, according to Sweden’s⁤ Radio.

The woman, who has outdoor life ⁢training, reportedly ⁣lit toilet‍ paper on fire​ after relieving herself in the⁣ woods, and the flames quickly ​spread from⁣ a bush.‌ Despite attempts by her companions to extinguish the blaze, the fire ‍escalated, ​prompting⁢ a response from the local rescue service.Authorities noted the potential for ​a much larger forest fire, given the proximity of buildings and power lines.

During questioning, the woman admitted to the act, stating,​ “I didn’t think about it,” as reported by⁣ Västerviks-Tidningen. The rescue service confirmed the fire was successfully contained, but warned of the significant⁣ danger‍ posed ⁤by the⁤ initial outbreak.
