A new form of yoga utilizing ropes is gaining traction in Singapore, offering a unique approach to traditional asanas and stretching. Shan Yoga & Dance, a studio based in the city-state, is promoting “Rope Yoga” (绳瑜伽), emphasizing its ability to improve balance and develop previously inaccessible poses achievable.
According to Shan Yoga & Dance, the practice invigorates the body and enhances balance by allowing practitioners to function muscles that are typically hard to reach. A one-hour session currently costs SGD 48. The studio states that participants often experience a taller, stronger and more rejuvenated body, alongside a clearer mind after a lesson.
The studio offers Rope Yoga sessions, and also promotes the practice through social media, including a recent post on Facebook showcasing the technique. A YouTube video from Shan Yoga & Dance specifically targets men who may perceive hesitant to try traditional yoga, suggesting Rope Yoga as a more approachable alternative. The video highlights the practice as #绳瑜伽 and #男瑜伽.
Shan Yoga & Dance’s cancellation policy for Rope Yoga and other classes is strict. Classes with fewer than four participants are subject to cancellation within eight hours of the scheduled time, with notifications sent via the studio’s system, email, and group chat. Members are required to cancel classes at least three hours in advance to avoid having the session deducted from their account. Packages are non-transferable and non-refundable, with limited exceptions for medical issues or extended travel, requiring supporting documentation. No classes are held on Public Holidays.
The studio also offers Rope Wall Yoga, as demonstrated in a recent Instagram reel, aiming for “transformation mind and body.”
