Xoli: Mexico City’s New AI Tourist Assistant for 2026 & Beyond

March 23, 2026 Rachel Kim – Technology Editor Technology

Mexico City has launched Xoli, a new chatbot designed to provide tourists with real-time information about the city’s cultural offerings, services, and transportation options, officials announced Thursday. The virtual assistant, accessible via WhatsApp at +5255 6565 9395, is currently available in both English and Spanish.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Digital Agency for Public Innovation in collaboration with the Ministries of Tourism and Culture, aims to streamline the visitor experience, particularly in anticipation of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which Mexico will co-host with the United States and Canada. Mexico City is scheduled to host the opening match of the tournament next June.

“Xoli represents the hospitality that characterizes Mexico City, brought into the digital realm,” said Alejandra Frausto Guerrero, the capital’s Secretary of Tourism. “Every day, the city offers tourists and visitors more than 3,000 activities; this chatbot will help ensure that this vast array of options is experienced in an organized and memorable way.”

Users can initiate a conversation with Xoli by sending the word “Hola” to the designated WhatsApp number. The chatbot then prompts users to select their preferred language before presenting a menu of categories including museums, restaurants, hotels, cultural events, concerts, festivals, and transportation. It also allows users to search for activities by specific dates to facilitate personalized itineraries, according to a statement released by the Digital Agency.

Angel Tamariz, head of the Digital Agency for Public Innovation, stated that the implementation of Xoli aims to ensure that every visitor experiences Mexico City in a simple and digital way, serving as an “open window” to the city. While initially developed to support the influx of visitors expected for the World Cup, officials have indicated that Xoli will remain a permanent resource for tourism.

The chatbot is designed to understand natural language, allowing users to pose questions such as “What museums do you recommend I visit with children?” or “Where can I discover concerts this weekend?” It provides information on a wide range of topics, including mobility, climate, and recommendations for visitors.

The launch of Xoli is part of a broader effort by the Mexican federal government to leverage the 2026 World Cup as a catalyst for national development, alongside initiatives like the Conoce México app and a regulated ticket resale platform, according to reports.
