Xbox Cloud Gaming Poised for Major Upgrade, New Resolution Options Incoming
Microsoft is preparing a significant technology overhaul for Xbox cloud Gaming, its largest since the serviceS initial beta launch in 2020. The upgrade, revealed through code discoveries, promises expanded resolution options and a potential move away from the “beta” designation, signaling a maturing of the platform.
Currently, Xbox Cloud Gaming allows players to stream titles without needing dedicated console hardware. The forthcoming changes will introduce new streaming resolutions – 720HQ, 1080HQ, and 1440p – representing a substantial improvement over existing options. While not reaching the 5K streaming capability of competitor NVIDIA geforce Now, the increase aims to enhance visual fidelity for users.
These resolution tiers will reportedly be linked to Xbox Game Pass membership levels. Xbox Game Pass Core and Standard members are expected to retain access to 720p and 1080p streams, while Xbox game Pass Ultimate subscribers will gain access to the higher-quality HQ and high-resolution options.
The data was initially uncovered by developer analysis of Xbox system code, suggesting an imminent rollout. While the upgrade doesn’t directly address latency concerns, improvements to frame rates are also anticipated, potentially leading to a more responsive gaming experience.
Further reducing lag, rumors suggest the next Xbox Wireless Controller may connect directly to the internet via Wi-Fi, bypassing the need for a console or device intermediary. This growth arrives as cloud gaming technology continues to advance, with GeForce Now demonstrating the potential for high-fidelity streaming experiences.
